Falcons Silence Pipers; Extend Winning Streak to Six

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey program has tied its longest winning streak in program history on Saturday afternoon in Minnesota. The Falcons brought out the brooms with a 5-1 victory to complete the weekend sweep. The victory is the sixth in a row for the Blue and White and propels CUW to 9-6-0 after the final non-conference contest of the year.

Sophomore Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ontario) started the scoring with 5:50 left in the first period when he tapped in a rebound off a shot from sophomore Logan Kroyman (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) and a secondary assist from sophomore Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, British Columbia).

Two minutes later, the Falcons had a shorthanded goal when the Falcons crashed the net on a counter started when junior Noah Roitman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) found sophomore Sawyer Wirsing (Arundel, Maine) streaking down the ice and Wirsing connected with senior Garrett McArthur (London, Ontario) near the crease.

CUW lit the lamp halfway through the second period off a takeaway and a blast from freshman Devon Savignac (Sudbury, Ontario) from the right circle.

The Falcons struck again in the final minute of the second period on the power play. Junior Derek Humpreys (Spokane, Wash.) scored on the back door off tic tac toe passes from freshman Levi Carter (Keremeos, British Columbia) and Riley Klugerman.

Riley Klugerman struck again in the third period on the power play off a cross-ice pass from Levi Carter after freshman Connor Van Wheelie (Mississauga, Ontario) set up the play.

The Pipers scored their lone goal on the power play in the final minute of the game.

The Falcons held a 26-23 advantage in shots on Saturday.

Junior Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) collected 22 saves in the victory.

CUW once again controlled the faceoff circle on Saturday, winning 30 of the 54 faceoffs. Connor Van Wheelie won 11 of his 15 faceoffs.

The only other time that the Falcons had won six-straight games was in the 2013-14 season.

The Falcons return to action on Friday when they resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play against No. 2 St. Norbert.
