Men's Hockey Extends Winning Streak to Five

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team dropped the puck on the 2025 portion of the schedule on Friday night in a non-conference clash at Hamline. The Falcons extended their winning streak to five games with a 4-3 victory to improve to 8-6-0.

The Falcons had the first opportunity of the night when the Pipers coughed up the puck in the defensive zone in the first minute. The turnover caused a quick two-on-one advantage for the Falcons, but Maximillian Haselbacher came up with a save.

Two minutes later, the Pipers peppered the Concordia net with a pair of shots, but the Falcons quieted the threat.

A hooking call sent the Falcons to the power play 8:53 into the first period. The Pipers sent another to the box 38 seconds later with a crosscheck. The Falcons had a handful of quality shots, but the Pipers kept the puck out of the net.

Sophomore Mi-Kwan Tallman (Edmonton, Alberta) lit the lamp with a five-hole shot front the slot with 6:44 left in the first period off assists from freshman Levi Carter (Keremeos, British Columbia) and freshman Connor Van Wheelie (Mississauga, Ontario).

Concordia lit the lamp 38 seconds later when sophomore Matt Koepke (Vernon Hills, Illinois) had a snipe from above the right circle off passes from junior Mason Ausmus (Saline, Mich.) and Mi-Kwan Tallman.

The Falcons took a delay of game penalty two minutes later. The Pipers capitalized with a goal nine seconds into the power play off some clean passes.

Concordia held a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal after 20 minutes.

A pair of roughing calls allowed the teams to play four-on-four to start the second period.

Junior Dain Sardelli (Hebron, N.D.) started the second-period scoring when he set up in front of the net and lit the lamp 2:32 into the frame off a pass from sophomore Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, British Columbia) and a secondary assist to sophomore Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ontario). The play was set up by a breakaway save for junior Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.)

The Pipers scored with 9:56 left in the second period after taking back the puck behind the CUW net.

The Falcons did not sulk and scored seven seconds later after they marched down the ice where Connor Van Wheelie found junior Derek Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.) wide open on the far side of the net with a secondary assist to Levi Carter. With the goal, Humphreys extended his scoring streak to four games.

The Pipers had a 14-7 advantage in shots in the second period.

Hamline had an excellent opportunity to start the third period with a two-on-one rush, but Rosek stopped the Pipers.

The Pipers connected again on the power play to cut into the Concordia lead.

Hamline pressured the Falcons late with an extra attacker, but the CUW defense stood tall to preserve the victory.

The Pipers held a 32-30 advantage in shots on Friday night.

The Falcons dominated the faceoff circle on Friday night with 41 victories. Freshman Devon Savignac (Sudbury, Ontario) won 12 of his 17 faceoffs.

Gabe Rosek silenced the Pipers to the tune of a 29-save performance.

This is the first five-game winning streak since the Falcons went 5-0-0 in January and February of 2018 with victories over Aurora, Lake Forest, two against MSOE and Trine. The longest winning streak is six games. That record was established in the 2013-14 season.

The two teams finish the weekend on Saturday in Minnesota.
