Men's Hockey scores three power-play goals, falls at Marian

FOND dU LAC, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin scored three power-play goals on Friday night at Marian University, but it wasn't enough as the Sabres won, 4-3, at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play.

The Falcons took a 2-1 lead early in the second period after their second-consecutive power-play marker before MU (13-10-1, 12-7-0 MCHA) answered with two goals to retake the lead, 3-2 at the end of two periods.

CUW (6-18-0, 6-13-0 MCHA) gained the lead back when freshman Kevin Michelcavage (Sterling Heights, Mich.) lit the lamp with a man-advantage goal just over two minutes into the final frame. The Sabres weren't going to go down easily on their senior night, as Brian Berger scored the game-winning goal midway through the period.

The Falcons three power-play scores tied a season-high, which they also did at Adrian College on Dec. 1, 2012. Freshmen Devin Stuermer (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Dan Shilts (New Richmond, Wis.) scored the first two power-play scores for the Falcons, while Michelcavage led CUW with two points.

Freshman Jake Hebda (Firestone, Colo.) saved 28 shots on goal in a losing effort. Josh Baker made 31 saves to earn the win between the pipes.

CUW and MU conclude the 2012-13 regular season on Saturday at 7 p.m. inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.
