No. 15 MSOE escapes second period comeback by Men's Hockey

MEQUON, Wis. – No. 15-ranked MSOE pulled out a close victory in front of an animated Concordia University Wisconsin crowd Saturday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center, winning 3-2 in the second game of a home-and-home series between the programs in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play.

The Raiders (2-0, 2-0 MCHA) took less shots on goals than the Falcons (0-3, 0-2 MCHA), 31-22, but were able to gain the lead early. Scoring two goals in the first period, MSOE looked to have control of the game, but the second period told a different story.

The teams began to showcase more of an aggressive style of play at the start of the second frame, with their heightened tempers resulting in multiple penalties and a momentum shift in favor of the Falcons. CUW converted on two power-play opportunities during the period, tying the game 2-2. The decisive third period resulted in a MSOE goal in the final 10 minutes of play, shutting the door on the Falcons' hope of winning their first conference game of the season.

CUW's Kyle Gaskin (freshman, Kingston, Ontario) put the Falcons on the board first, recording his first career goal after converting on freshman Chris Hughes (Dundee, Mich.) and freshman Devin Stuermer's (Milwaukee, Wis.) passes. Scoring the second goal for the Falcons was hometown product Stuermer less than three minutes later to tie the game.

MSOE's Bradley Tierney scored the conclusive third goal to seal the victory for the Raiders. Also scoring for the Raiders was Carl Lindbald and Cody Ganchar.

CUW will return to the ice on Nov. 2 at home against Lawrence University. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
