Szerlip scores goal, MSOE sweeps Men's Hockey

MEQUON, Wis. – Dan Szerlip scored a goal in awkward fashion with his feet to cut the deficit to a goal, but MSOE answered less than five minutes later to earn a 3-1 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday evening at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

The Raiders outshot the Falcons by a 30-18 margin and converted the game's only power-play goal in the Midwest College Hockey Association matchup. MSOE (13-7-1, 10-5-1 MCHA) built a 2-0 lead after two periods of play and held off an offensive spurt by CUW in the early stages of the third period.

Jordan Keizer slammed home a power-play goal off a rebound to give MSOE a 1-0 advantage with just over five minutes to play in the opening frame. Carl Lindblad and Michael Thompson assisted on the score.

After MSOE held a 13-5 shots on goal advantage in the first 20 minutes of play, the Raiders continued their offensive output with Mike Pao's game-winner four minutes and 10 seconds left on the scoreboard in the middle period. Steven Shaffroth assisted on the play.

Freshman Ryan Jaremko (Elk River, Minn.) blasted a shot on goal, which was saved, before Szerlip (freshman, Newton, Mass.) was shoved to the ice and in the process pushed the puck across the goal line with his feet for the Falcons only score, an even-strength marker. Jarmeko was credited with an assist on the goal.

Kyle Smith closed the door on the Falcons' comeback bid with a score less than five minutes later to give the Raiders a 3-1 lead.

CUW hosts No. 7/8 Adrian College – MCHA's first place team – on Friday and Saturday at the Ozaukee Ice Center. The first contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
