Men's Hockey swept by No. 4/3 UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – No. 4/3 UW-Eau Claire came out firing and didn't let up en route to 6-3 non-conference victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at Hobbs Ice Center. The Blugolds completed the two-game series sweep with a commanding 18-7 scoring difference.

UW-EC (9-0-1) scored twice in each period and outshot CUW by a 53-20 margin, the most shots allowed by the Falcons this season. CUW (4-5-0) did hold the Blugolds to 0-for-5 on power-play opportunities.

CUW freshman goalkeeper Jake Hebda (Firestone, Colo.) recorded a career-best 47 saves, including 20 in the second frame. UW-EC goalie Alex Bjerk earned the win between the pipes after making 17 saves.

Mark Pustin and Isaiah Bennis scored goals less than a minute apart in the opening period to give the Blugolds and 2-0 lead.

Junior Brandon Bayer (Milwaukee, Wis.) cut the Falcons deficit to 2-1 with an even strength tally, his first goal of the season. Freshmen Harrison Newlands (Toronto, Ontario) and Devin Stuermer (Milwaukee, Wis.) assisted on the score.

Jordan Singer, Brian Nehring and Jon Waggoner scored three-straight goals for UW-EC in the second and third stanzas to push its advantage to 5-1.

CUW scored on just 1-of-6 power-play chances, one being a Trammell Lynes (freshman, Edmonton, Alberta) goal after he found the back of the net less than five minutes into the third period. Freshmen Franco Loparco (Toronto, Ontario) and Kyle Gaskin (Kingston, Ontario) assisted on the man-advantage marker.

Just over three minutes later freshman Kevin Michelcavage (Sterling Heights, Mich.) found the back of the net for consecutive Falcon goals. The goal was assisted by freshman Eli Riddle (Blissfield, Mich.) and Stuermer.

Waggoner scored his second goal of the contest with 2:33 to play for the Blugolds sixth goal. Jack Callahan and Pustin each finished with three assists apiece.

The Falcons return to the ice with a two-game Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association series at No. 3/7 Adrian College on Friday and Saturday.
