Men's Hockey announces the addition of junior varsity team

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin men's hockey head coach Jasen Wise announced Monday morning the addition of a junior varsity team to the already strong varsity program.

"I'm excited about the addition of a junior varsity team for men's hockey program," Wise said. "I believe in "grass roots" hockey and this is a way to keep student-athletes playing the game I love. With most NCAA Division III programs only recruiting junior A players, including our own, this is a great way for traditional freshman hockey players to keep playing the game. They can wear the CUW Royal Blue and White jersey and have a great experience while earning their degree. We are currently working on a practice and game schedule to which should be finalized in a week or two. As CUW continues to grow, so does the sport of hockey."

Wise was hired to take over the Falcons program in March after it struggled to find the win column last season finishing 2-20-3. The 13-year hockey mentor, previously at Marian University, directed the Sabres to 119 victories in eight seasons.

"This will provide greater opportunities for young people to be involved in collegiate ice hockey and serve as an excellent developmental or rehabilitative support component for the varsity team," Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill said.
