Lake Forest uses power-play goals to down Men's Hockey

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Despite taking a quick 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, Concordia University Wisconsin's defense was outskated as Lake Forest College tallied five power-play goals en route to a 7-4 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory on Friday night.

The Falcons looked like they were going to cruise to a victory at Alumni Memorial Rink in the early going, but the Foresters answered with two goals to even the scoreboard. CUW responded with a marker before LFC rattled off five unanswered goals – four of the power-play variety – to take control.

LFC (8-8-2, 5-7-1 MCHA) finished the game with a 31-21 shots on goal advantage and was an impressive 5-for-9 on power-play opportunities. CUW (6-12-0, 6-7-0 MCHA) had its chances but ended the night 0-for-7 on the power-play.

Freshmen Devin Stuermer (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Martin Krestan (Zimorvice, Czech Republic) lit the lamp early for the Falcons. Stuermer's goal was just 56 seconds into the contest. Later in the first period freshman Trammell Lynes (Edmonton, Alberta) scored for the Falcons to give them a 3-2 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Jason McAloon recorded two goals and two assists in a notable outing, while Mcauley Banning found the back of the net once and assisted on three other scores for the Foresters.

Freshman James Poston (Sylvania, Ohio) scored his first career goal in the third period, which was also the final score of the evening. Freshman Domingo Torrenueva (Oshawa, Ontario) saw action for the first time this season between the pipes, 15:27, and saved seven shots on goal.

CUW and LFC conclude the series on Saturday at the Ozaukee Ice Center. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30 p.m.
