ACHA Hockey Goes to a Shootout with Lake Superior State
OXFORD, Ohio – The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA Hockey team continued its busy weekend at the Miami (Ohio) Showcase on Saturday night. Round two of the weekend saw a familiar foe in Lake Superior State. Saturday marked the fourth time that the two battled this season. For the first time this year, the Lakers skated away victorious with a 6-5 shootout victory.
Sophomore Owen Almburg (Glenview, Ill.) started the scoring in the first period with senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) adding the assist.
The Falcons went up when senior Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) lit the lamp with senior Andrew Malek (Milwaukee, Wis.) and senior Nolan Judge (Glendale, Ariz.) having the helpers.
The Lakers cut into the lead, but seconds later, junior Dominic Murano (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored with sophomore Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) and Nolan Judge assisting.
The Lakers quickly tied the game with back-to-back goals 23 seconds apart.
Dominic Murano closed the first-period scoring spree with a power-play goal off assists from Chuck Emme and Andrew Malek.
Andrew Malek scored the lone goal for the Falcons in the second period.
Lake Superior State tied the game with goals in the second and third periods.
Neither team was able to capitalize in overtime, and the Lakers secured the victory with a shootout victory.
Sophomore Fred Roufs (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had the start for the Falcons on Saturday.
The Falcons close the showcase on Sunday afternoon against No. 1 Lindenwood.
