Concordia Cruises Past Roadrunners

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin ACHA hockey team triumphed over the MSU-Denver Roadrunners on Saturday morning, winning 4-1 and improving their overall record to 11-3-0.

The Roadrunners struck first, scoring with 3:10 left in the first period to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. However, the momentum shifted after the break as the Falcons came out strong. Senior Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) equalized with 5:51 remaining in the second period, finishing a play assisted by sophomore Owen Almburg (Glenview, Ill.) and senior Andrew Malek (Milwaukee, Wis.).

The Falcons' offense truly ignited in the third period. Just 5:43 in, senior Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) scored to give CUW a 2-1 advantage, with assists from sophomore Jaxon Hill (Bismarck, N.D.) and senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.).

Less than two minutes later, the Falcons capitalized on a power play. Staudacher and Malek both tallied their second assists of the night, setting up sophomore Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.), who found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-1.

With 1:48 remaining, Jaxon Hill capped off the scoring with a goal, assisted by Andrew Malek and Garrett Wilderman. The defense held firm to secure the 4-1 victory.

Austin Bartell was impressive in goal, making 37 saves. Andrew Malek had a standout performance, recording three assists, while Tommy Cassel excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 15 of 26 attempts.

The Falcons will continue their homestand next weekend when they host Lake Superior State on Friday, November 8th.
