ACHA Hockey Sinks Sault

SAULT STE. Marie, Ont. – The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA Hockey team took care of business in Canada on Friday night. The Falcons improved to 6-2-0 with the 5-1 victory at Sault.

The Falcons struck early on Friday night on a power play goal 51 seconds into the game when sophomore Jaxon Hill (Bismarck, N.D.) crashed the net.

The Blue and White struck again with a shorthanded goal from senior Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) on a breakaway off a steal with 11:15 left in the first period.

The Cougars scored at the beginning of the second period on a rebound off a bounce off the boards.

Concordia pushed the lead back to two goals off a snipe from sophomore Owen Almburg (Glenview, Ill.) off a pass from Tommy Cassel with 9:25 left in the second period.

Rex Staudacher scored on a four-on-three power play with a top-shelf goal to hit the water bottle off a pass from Tommy Cassel.

The Birds struck again moments later on the power play when Tommy Cassel cleaned up the puck off a rebound of a shot from freshman Rocco Cicirello (Mequon, Wis.).

Junior Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) earned the victory in the net with 24 saves.

The Cougars held a 25-23 advantage in shots on Friday.

The Falcons and Cougars will compete again on Saturday for round two.
