MEQUON, Wis. – The Skies of November turned gloomy for the Lake Superior State Lakers on Saturday afternoon. The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA hockey team secured the weekend sweep over the Lakers with a 4-2 victory to improve to 13-3-0 on the year.
The Falcons struck early on Saturday with a goal 23 seconds into the contest when senior Andrew Malek (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored redirected in a shot from senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) that also deflected off sophomore Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.).
The Lakers scored their first goal of the contest on the power play in the first minute of the second period.
Senior Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) gave the Falcons the lead at 15:37 with a snipe on a one-timer from the far circle on the power play, off passes from Rex Staudacher and Andrew Malek.
The Blue and Gold bounced back with a power-play goal at the 12:17 mark of the period.
Freshman Rocco Cicicrello (Mequon, Wis.) broke the tie with 8:02 left in the game when he smacked the loose puck in front of the net on a back-handed shot off a rebound off a shot from freshman Mason Musel (Duluth, Minn.).
Garrett Wilderman put the bow on the victory with an empty-net goal from across the rink off an assist from Andrew Malek.
Junior Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) made 34 saves in the victory.
