Sault Levels Weekend Series

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA played its second game of the weekend at Sault on Saturday. The Cougars leveled the weekend series with a 6-5 to send the Falcons are now 6-3-0 on the year.

The Cougars opened the day with an early 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Owen Almburg (Glenview, Ill.) scored from near the blue line with 12:32 left in the first period off passes from senior Nolan Judge (Glendale, Ariz.) and senior Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.).

With 5:47 left in the first, Tommy Cassel scored from the right circle off passes from freshman Rocco Cicirello (Mequon, Wis.) and senior Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.).

The Cougars collected another goal to take a 4-2 lead into the first intermission.

The Falcons scored on the power play with 3:06 left in the second period when sophomore Jaxon Hill (Bismarck, N.D.) scored on a shot from the left circle with assists to senior Rex Staudacher (Yorkville, Ill.) and Garrett Wilderman.

Sault scored late in the second period to hold a 5-3 advantage heading into the final period.

Freshman Mason Musel (Duluth, Minn.) started the third period scoring for the Falcons on Saturday. Rex Staudacher scored the third power-play goal of the game for the Falcons to tie the game with 6:41 remaining.

The Cougars scored the game-winning goal with 5:52 left in the game.

Junior Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) had 15 saves against Sault.

The Falcons held a 33-21 advantage in shots on Saturday.

The Falcons close the weekend on Sunday at Lake Superior State.
