CUW women defeat Concordia Chicago 66-59

RIVER FOREST, Ill.-  Concordia Wisconsin converted seven of eight opportunities from the charity stripe in the game's closing minute while the host Cougars missed all three of their chances.  That one 60 second statistic proved critical as Stacey Brunner-Jones crew improved to 2-1 in conference action while handing Concordia-Chicago (1-1 NAC) their first NAC loss.

CUC hit the first bucket of the second half to take their final lead of the game (32-31) before CUW began to take temporary control.  The Falcon cushion eventually grew to ten points with six minutes remaining, but half a dozen turnovers later the CUW lead was just three points with less than a minute remaining.  That's when the Falcon free throw successes after desperate Cougar fouls came into play.

Senior Brittany Zietlow (Oak Creek, Wis.) was 2-2 from the line with :49 left to up the CUW margin to five.  After a Cougar score, reliable Tiffany Hendrickson hit a pair of charity tosses to regain the five point margin before Zietlow added three of four from the stripe in the closing seconds.

Junior Camille Parsons (Urbana, Ill.) was a key 'all facets' contributor for the second consecutive game with nine points, ten rebounds, and five assists. 

Katie Luethe (Jr. /Oshkosh, Wis.) led a wonderfully balanced CUW attack offensively with 16 points.  Six other Falcons added at least six.  Freshman Jasmine Williams (Chicago, Ill.) had her best performance to date with an eight point effort. 

"Our depth has certainly been a factor in the two most recent games," said head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones. "It's a win on the road and those are always good ... lots to work on... on to the next game," she added.  

The Falcons (3-2 overall) travel to Edgewood College Tuesday for a 7:00pm contest.

Edgewood and Maranatha are currently the only undefeated teams in the NAC North as both have 2-0 conference records.  Alverno and CUW are right behind at 2-1.
