#3 Calvin defeats CUW women 67-54

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO.- The Concordia Wisconsin women (6-5) gave a good account of themselves before dropping a 67-54 decision to one of the Nation's top D3 teams at the Colorado College Tournament.

The potent Knights, a perennial national qualifier, raced to an early 25-6 lead which eventually became a 46-27 halftime cushion via incredible 71% (17-24) shooting prior to the break.

Calvin inside players Carissa Kerkaik and Julia Hilbrands combined to hit 10 of 11 shots from the field over the first twenty minutes.

CUW never cut the lead below the final 13 point margin during the second half, but the Falcons battled gamely with 11 players scoring points, led by reserve Allison Paluchniak (Fr./ Oostburg, Wis.) with nine.  Non starters scored 33 of CUW's 54 points.

The 19 point halftime spread was whittled to 13 (50-37) with less than 10 minutes remaining, but the teams essentially traded baskets down the stretch.

Concordia was outrebounded by just 44-38 against a much taller foe, but Stacey Brunner-Jones' team committed 17 turnovers.

Guards Paluchinak and Anna Butler (Jr./ Kewaskum, Wis.) led CUW rebounderes with seven and six respectively.

CUW will match up against host Colorado College on Sunday.
