MEQUON, Wis. -- The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team hopes to reach numerous high points during the 2012-13 season, but the highest point geographically will be a trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado (over 6000 feet above sea level) to battle both Calvin College and Colorado College in a late December non-conference tournament on December 28th and 29th.
Nationally-ranked Calvin College wound up 28-2 last season, losing an NCAA Elite 8 game to St. Thomas in OT. The traditionally-powerful Knights have compiled an impressive 78-12 record over the past three seasons.
CUW opens the 2012-13 season against Beloit College on the road Saturday, November 17th at 2:00pm and then will battle Carroll College at home on Monday, November 19th at 7:00pm before swinging into conference action at Alverno College on Saturday, November 24th at 7:00pm.
The Falcon's NAC home opener will pit them against arch-rival Lakeland College on Wednesday, November 28th at 7:00pm.
Coach Stacey Brunner-Jones and company have one other long road trip when they head to the CIT in Seward, Nebraska on January 25th and 26th.
Just ten of CUW's 25 contests will be played at home with the final regular season home encounter being against Alverno on February 13, 2013 prior to the Northern Athletics Conference NCAA Qualifying Tournament.
CUW finished 16-11 last season, including a 13-5 mark in the NAC. Three of those Falcon losses came at the hands of Northern Division and overall champion Wisconsin Lutheran which wound up 17-1 in the league and 24-5 overall; losing to Calvin in the NCAA Tourney.
The Falcons are scheduled to play WLC only once during the regular season this year and that matchup does not occur until Saturday, February 9, 2013 when the long-time rivals clash in Milwaukee at 2:00pm.
The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball program began play in 1976 and the Falcons hope to earn the school's 500th win during the 2012-13 season. CUW is 488- 332 overall including 143-76 during the Brunner-Jones tenure.
