Falcons Tripped Up at Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. – The Vikings of Lawrence stayed alive in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association playoff race with a 5-3 victory over the Falcons on Saturday night. The Blue and White could have clinched the final spot in the Harris Cup Playoffs with a victory.

The Falcons struck first on Saturday in the second period. Junior Nick Bowlin (Maplewood, Minn.) smashed the puck through to the back of the net on the power play, off assists from freshman Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.) and sophomore Zach Brydges (Woodbury, Minn.).

The Vikings then tied the game at one three minutes later,

CUW took the lead 44 seconds later on freshman Bryar Dittmer's (Chatham, Ont.) first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore Nick Wieben (Mankato, Minn.).

The Falcons held a 2-1 lead going into the third period.

The Vikings once again tied the game 2:31 into the third period.

Bryar Dittmer struck again three minutes later to light the lamp off assists from freshman Ben Pizzimenti (Iowa City, Iowa) and Grant Newcomer.

Lawrence then tied the game up eight seconds later, then took the lead late, and added an empty-net goal for insurance.

The Vikings held a 67-34 advantage in shots.

Grant Newcomer and junior Joey Petronack (White Bear Lake, Minn.) led CUW with five shots each.

Freshman Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) had 35 saves on the evening.

CUW closes the regular season next weekend at Finlandia.

The Falcons and Vikings remain tied for eighth place with 12 points. Lawrence finishes the regular season at Trine.
