Men’s Hockey Victorious Over Vikings

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team picked up their first win of February with a 5-1 victory over the Lawrence Vikings on Friday night.

The Vikings came out hot in the first period with a goal in the 17th minute.  This was the only Viking goal with the Blue and White netting the next five unanswered.

The Falcons recorded the lone goal in the second period on a short-handed opportunity off the stick of sophomore Zach Brydges (Woodbury, Minn.).  He was assisted by fellow sophomore Nick Wieben (Mankato, Minn.) and freshman Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.).

The third period got off to a blazing start for the Falcons with a goal just 33 seconds from the initial puck drop off the stick of Newcomer.  He was assisted by Wieben and junior Joey Petronack (White Bear Lake, Minn.).  Just over 40 seconds later, junior Nick Bowlin (Maplewood, Minn.) netted the third Falcon goal off assists from freshmen Collin Kerchoff (White Lake, Mich.) and Jason Tenezaca (Niles, Ill.).  The fourth goal for the Blue and White was scored by freshman Mason Ausmus (Saline, Mich.) with assists from Kerchoff and Bowlin.

The flock scored their final goal on an empty net in the 18th minute off the stick of freshman Noah Roitman (Inver Grove Heights (Minn.) with an assist from Petronack.

Freshman Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) came up with 30 saves in his 59:41 between the posts.

The Blue and White will finish their weekend series with the Vikings at Lawrence on Saturday night.
