DE PERE, Wis. - The Falcons dropped game one of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Harris Cup Quarterfinals to the St. Norbert Green Knights, falling 8-1 and dropping to 12-14-0 on the season.
St. Norbert came out strong, taking a 2-0 lead after the first period while stifling CUW's offensive opportunities. The Green Knights continued to dominate in the second period, extending their lead to 6-0.
The Falcons managed to break the shutout with 1:43 left in the second when sophomore Sawyer Wirsing (Arundel, Maine) found the back of the net, with junior Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.) and senior Garret McArthur (London, Ont.) earning assists.
However, St. Norbert would go on to claim an 8-1 victory and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Freshman goaltender Cameron Hrdlicka (Calgary, Alta.) recorded a team-high 29 saves in 35 minutes of play, while junior Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) stopped 17 shots in 25 minutes. On the defensive end, freshman Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ont.) led the team with two blocked shots.
The Falcons now look ahead to tomorrow's game, where they will look to even the series against the Green Knights.
