Falcons Tie No. 6 St. Norbert in Harris Cup Quarterfinals

DE PERE, WIs. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's hockey team's 2024-25 season concluded in the Harris Cup Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Quarterfinals, as they tied the nationally-ranked Green Knights of St. Norbert in game two of their weekend series.

Despite the tie, the Falcons were unable to earn enough points to force a mini-game, ending their season with a 12-14-1 record—their most wins since the 2019-2020 season.

Sophomore Sawyer Wirsing (Arundel, Maine) gave the Falcons an early lead, scoring just 4:52 into the contest for his second goal in as many nights. Wirsing's tally came with assists from sophomore Matt Koepke (Vernon Hills, Ill.) and senior Garrett McArthur (London, Ont.).

However, the Green Knights answered back, tying the game 1-1 with 2:11 left in the first period.

St. Norbert then took a 2-1 lead in the second period while the Falcons remained scoreless. In the third, Concordia fought hard for a comeback, with Dain Sardelli (Hebron, N.D.) scoring the equalizer, assisted by junior Derek Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.). The score remained 2-2 through regulation, forcing overtime.

Despite several strong opportunities, the Falcons were unable to secure a win, and the game ended in a tie, allowing SNC to advance and bringing an end to Concordia's season.

Freshman Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ont.) led the Falcons with six shots, while sophomores Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, B.C.) and Humphreys each recorded nine faceoff wins. In goal, junior Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) posted an impressive 44 saves.

The CUW Athletics Department would like to express gratitude to the senior class—Seth Bergeron (Minneapolis, Minn.), Garrett McArthur, Zach Brydges (Woodbury, Minn.), and Will Oliver (Chesterfield, Mo.) for their contributions to the men's hockey program.

Looking ahead, the Falcons are committed to continuing their improvement as they prepare for the 2025-26 season.
