Men's Hockey Silences MSOE in Overtime

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons came out on top of a thrilling overtime battle on Saturday afternoon against MSOE. The Falcons picked up a 3-2 overtime victory to snap a 10-game losing skid and improve to 3-16-0 on the year and 3-9-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

Defense was the name of the game in the first period with both defenses keeping the puck out of the net.

Freshman Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.) came racing out of the penalty box and sniped a shot past the MSOE goalie off assists to freshman Collin Kerchoff (White Lake, Mich.) and freshman Dain Sardelli (Hebron, N.D.). The goal is the first short-handed goal of the year for CUW.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead into the third period. Saturday marked the first time that CUW had led or struck first since playing MSOE in November.

The penalty kill struck again for CUW when freshman Jason Tenezaca (Nile, Mich.) scored on the penalty kill as the Falcons jarred the puck free from the far boards with freshman Jaron Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska).

The Raiders cooled the festive feelings in the Ozaukee Ice Center with two goals in the final three minutes of the third period and forced overtime.

Both teams had some good looks in the extra session but the game ended after freshman Lucas Doran (Detroit, Mich.) intercepted the puck and found sophomore Zach Brydges (Woodbury, Minn.) up ice and Brydges put the puck away for the win.

Freshman Gabe Rosek (East Lansing, Mich.) kept the Falcons in the contest with 47 saves.

CUW finished with 33 saves, with Jason Tenezaca leading the way with five.

The Falcons will travel to the great state of Michigan next weekend for a pair of games at Adrian.
