Horton Steps Down as Men’s Hockey Head Coach

MEQUON, Wis. – Bill Horton, after two years as the head coach of the CUW men's hockey program, stepped down from his position.

"I am really appreciative for everything that Dr. Barnhill and the Concordia Wisconsin athletic department did for me over the past four seasons," said Bill Horton. "I am very proud of the direction that the program is now heading, however, it felt as though it was the right time for me to pursue some other opportunities."

Horton finishes his tenure at Concordia Wisconsin with a record of 12-32-2.

He served as the assistant coach for two years before taking control of the program.

"Coach Horton has resigned to pursue other professional opportunities," said Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill. "I would like to thank him for everything he has done for CUW hockey and wish him the best going forward."

He helped guide the Falcons to their first-ever divisional title in the 2020-21 season, where the Falcons claimed the National Collegiate Hockey Association North Division title at 6-2-0.

During his time, Horton coached six AHCA Krampade All-Americans, three NCHA All-Conference selections and 19 NCHA All-Academic selections.

A national search for the next men's hockey head coach will begin immediately.

"A national search is underway to find his replacement and I am committed to finding the best leader I can for our men's hockey program," said Dr. Barnhill.

Prior to his time at Concordia Wisconsin, Horton worked with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL), the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and with a hockey training company in St. Paul, Minnesota.
