Teddy Bears Fly on Friday Night

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team continued its annual "teddy bear toss" tradition on Friday night against the Johnnies of Saint John's. With the Falcons' first goal of the evening, stuffed animals were donated to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The Johnnies spoiled the festivities with a 5-1 victory.

The Johnnies struck first on Friday with the trickled in during the first period.

Four minutes later, freshman Joshua Maine (Tecumseh, Ont.) made the teddy bears rain from the stands off a rebound from a shot from senior Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.) and a secondary assist to sophomore Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.).

The Red and Blue retook the lead on a breakaway goal during four-on-four action.

The Johnnies extended the lead in the second period on the power play.

The visitors from Minnesota scored again a minute later.

The Johnnies scored in the final seconds of the game with a breakaway goal.

Saint John's held a 33-20 advantage in shots on Friday.

Sophomore Riley Morgan (Scottsdale, Ariz.) finished the evening with 28 saves.

Concordia finished the evening with 43 penalty minutes and killed off six penalties.

Joshua Maine led the flock with four shots on Friday.

CUW closes the book on 2021 with a home game on Saturday afternoon against Gustavus Adolphus.
