Golden Gusties Blow Down CUW

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcon men's hockey team took on the Golden Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus inside the Ozaukee Ice Center on Saturday afternoon to put a cap on the 2021 portion of their season.

The Golden Gusties struck first when they netted their first goal in the fifth minute of the first period.

Four minutes later Gustavus scored again on an unassisted goal.

The Golden Gusties scored again in the third period at 12:53 extending their lead to 3-0.

Gustavus came out of the first intermission with a power-play goal in the ninth minute to take the 4-0 lead.

The Falcons netted their first goal in the 10th minute of the second period off the stick of freshman Joshua Maine (Tecumseh, Ont.) off a rebound of a shot from senior Salvatore Scalise (Calgary, Alta.).  This goal cut the Falcons deficit to three.

Gustavus scored two more goals in the first two and a half minutes of the third period to take the 6-1 lead.

With one man in the penalty box, sophomore Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) found the back of the net off the stick of freshman Nick Wieben (Mankato, Minn.).  This cut the Gusties lead to four on the short-handed goal.

Gustavus went on to score one more goal two and a half minutes later on a power-play.

The Falcons were led in shots by Nick Wieben with five.

In net, the duo of sophomores Riley Morgan (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Liam McGarva (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) recorded 38 saves.  Morgan snagged 11 in his 12:53 in net and McGarva brought in 27 in his 47 minutes.

The Falcons look to shake off the 7-2 loss in January when they take on Lake Forest in a home and home the seventh and eighth.
