Lions Outlast Falcons in Overtime Thriller

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcon men's hockey team welcomed the Finlandia Lions to the Ozaukee Ice Center for their final series of the 2021-22 season.

In Friday's senior night matchup, The Falcons honored five seniors for their hard work and dedication to the hockey program.

The first period ended without a score. Sophomore Liam McGarva (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) ended the first period with 13 saves.

The second period saw two Lion goals within the first minute, but nothing else which forced the Falcons into a 0-2 hole.

Senior Peter Kapak (Red Deer, Alta.) lit the lamp for the Falcons with the first goal of the third period at the 6:34 mark. Kapak was assisted by fellow senior Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and Sophomore Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.).

Just 52 seconds later, the Falcons tied up the gamer with a goal from Freshman Justin Schwartzmiller (Fond Du Lac, Wis.). He was assisted by both Kreuser and junior Lucas Hefty (Oregon, Wis.)

With the score tied at two, neither team found the back of the net which forced an overtime period.

In the five-minute, three-on-three period, the Lions found the back of the net at the 3:35 mark to take the first leg of the series.

The Falcons finished with 62 shots on goal.

The flock looks to get revenge in their final matchup of the season Saturday inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.
