Falcons Earn a Tie at No. 13 Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team traveled to Stevens Point on Saturday night to take on the 13th-ranked Pointers and skated to a 3-3 tie.

Junior Jay Powell (Nashville, Tenn.) lit the lamp at the 18:49 mark of the first period off a rocket from distance from the far boards. Powell struck again from the same spot 23 seconds later.

Stevens Point stormed back in the second period with three-straight goals to take the lead.

Sophomore Michael Makarenko (Calgary, Alta.) tied the game on the power play in the third period off passes from sophomore Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) and sophomore Tyler Pang (Victoria, B.C.).

The Pointers pulled their goalie in the final minute of overtime for an extra attacker, but the CUW defense stood tall to keep the Pointers out of the net to earn the tie.

Senior Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) posted 45 saves against UWSP.

The 13th-ranked Pointers held an 83-46 advantage in shots on Saturday night. UWSP had 48 shots on goal, compared to 33 for CUW.

Senior Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.) and Michael Makarenko led the flock with six shots each.

Jordan Guiney won 22 faceoffs on the evening. CUW won 41 of the 72 faceoffs against the Pointers.

The Pointers move tp 6-3-1 and CUW moves to 1-6-2.

The Falcons return to action on Friday against St. Norbert.
