Falcons Show Off in the Season Opener

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons ACHA hockey team came out hot in their season and home opener against the Lakers of Lake Superior State. CUW took game one of the series, 5-2.

The Falcons struck first scoring on a power-play goal in the 11th minute of the first period.  Sophomore John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) scored off the stick of the Wilderman brothers, senior Wyatt Wilderman (Bear Dance, Mont.) and freshman Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.).

The Lakers would tie it in the 17th minute of the first period.  This would be the last time that the Lakers would have the lead.  The Falcons threw two more into the back of the net in the second period.  The period saw another goal from Swiatek as well as a goal from junior Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.).

The scoring wouldn't stop there as the third period saw two more Falcon goals to sink the Lakers, 5-2.  These goals came from sophomore Nick Roberts (Milwaukee, Wis.) and a third goal from Swiatek.

This hat-trick performance from Swiatek had all three assists coming off of a Wilderman.  Wyatt Wilderman would have the primary assist on all three while Garrett would have the secondary on the first goal, his lone point of the night.

Junior Mack Willy (Tacoma, Wash.) would have a stellar night in goal recording 24 saves on the night and only allowing two goals.

The Falcons outshot the Lakers 46-26 in shots on goal.

The Falcons look to complete the weekend sweep of the Lakers on Saturday inside the Ozaukee Ice Center.
