Volleyball defeats Chicago on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – In the final tune-up before the NACC Tournament begins next week, Concordia Wisconsin defeated Chicago 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-22) on Senior Day during a Saturday matinee matchup inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The non-conference match was close from the get-go and as a result, there were 31 scoring ties and 13 lead changes. Following an opening set loss, the Falcons fought back to win three-consecutive sets and push their win total to 21.
- Chicago used a 9-1 scoring run in the middle portion of the opening set to pull ahead 21-16, but Concordia Wisconsin slowly clawed its way back and got to within a point, 22-21. However, a pair of kills and a Falcon error gave the Maroons an opening 25-22 set victory.
- Finding itself down 22-21 late in the second frame, Concordia Wisconsin answered with a pair of kills, a Karina Klotz (senior, Hubertus, Wis.) service ace to force set point. Chicago faltered with an attack error, which gave the Falcons the set win and tie the match at 1-1 on the scoreboard.
- Chicago's Pinton smashed back-to-back kills to force a 23-23 tie and a Concordia Wisconsin timeout. However, the Falcons scored the next point off a Maroons service ace and secured the stanza with a Terese Zymanek (junior, Menomonee Falls, Wis.) kill.
- As was the case all match, Concordia Wisconsin waited until the end to add the explanation point. The Falcons were given the final two points of the match off Maroon attack errors to earn the non-league win.
- Junior Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) had a match-high 18 kills to go along with 13 digs and three service aces. Freshman Megan Mayer (Downers Grove, Ill.) had 12 kills and six digs.
- Junior Megan Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) ended with 10 kills and three block assists.
- Klotz was impressive on Senior Day with 32 assists and eight digs. Sophomore Mackenzie Wockenfus (Appleton, Wis.) tallied 16 assists and eight digs.
- Sophomore Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) was outstanding with 32 digs and five assists.
- Junior Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) led the defensive efforts at the net with five block assists, while four of her teammates had at least two block assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Concordia Wisconsin hit .199 (61K-25E-181A) in the match, but recorded a .325 attack percentage (16K-3E-40A) in the third set.
- The Falcons 21 victories is tied for the fourth-most in a season in program history.
- Casper's career-high 32 digs are tied for the eighth-most in a match in program history.
- Klotz's 32 assists are tied for the fourth most in a four-set match in program history.
- Nevinski moved into 10th place for a single season in program history with 83 block assists.

THE OPPOSITION
- Audrey Scrafford led the Maroons with 16 digs, while Sarah Muisenga and Anabella Pinton smashed 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Erin Risk posted 34 assists.
- Mary Claire Touhy had 24 digs and three of her teammates had double-figure dig totals.
- Madison Pearson and Scrafford each tallied a solo block and four block assists.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons host the winner of fourth-seeded Edgewood vs. fifth-seeded Lakeland on Thursday at 7 pm in a NACC Tournament semifinal matchup.
