Volleyball splits matches with Carroll, Carthage in non-conference play

KENOSHA, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin split a pair of matches on Saturday in non-conference play at the Carthage Invitational. The Falcons defeated Carroll 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-13) before dropped a 3-1 (22-25, 24-26, 25-20, 21-25) decision to host Carthage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons blew by the Pioneers in their first match of the day, winning by a 3-0 score. The match seemed to get easier as it progressed based on the points allowed.
- Junior Megan Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) found her offensive rhythm, posting 10 kills and a .474 attack percentage in the victory.
- As well, senior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) had 10 assists and seven digs, while sophomore Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) recorded 14 digs and five assists.
- Sophomore Amanda Schultz (North Prairie, Wis.) had six kills, two assists, four digs and four block assists.
- Concordia Wisconsin hit .228 (36K-13E-101A) and limited Carroll to a .058 attack percentage (28K-22E-104A).
- The Falcons couldn't do enough to hold off the host Lady Reds, snapping their three-match winning streak. They didn't overcome an 18-17 deficit in the opening set or maintain a 21-9 advantage in the second frame. Concordia Wisconsin scored nine of the last 12 points in the third set to win.
- Sophomore Makenzie Paszek (Sussex, Wis.) had a career game against Carthage, with 11 kills and 10 digs to go along with a .269 attack percentage.
- Juniors Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) each had eight kills. Klotz recorded 24 assists and 10 digs, while sophomore Ashley Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) had 21 assists and 10 digs.
- Casper dug 20 attack attempts, while Schultz stood tall with two block solos and three block assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- Megan Jehlicka was named to the all-tournament team.
- The Falcons put together a 10-0 scoring run in the second set against Carroll and each point started with a Megan Mayer (Downers Grove, Ill.) serve. Megan Jehlicka had three-straight kills and Mayer had three-consecutive service aces in the scoring run.
- Concordia Wisconsin had 11 service aces against Carroll, including a career-high four by Mayer. Also, Casper had three and Klotz served a pair of aces.

THE OPPOSITION
- Cassidy Mrotek and Dana Voltolina each had seven kills for Carroll, while Emma Przeslicke assisted on 13 kills.
- Mrotek and Amanda Hahn ended with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
- Carthage had three players with double-digit kills and were led by Shannon Kebisek who smashed 13. Meanwhile, Stephanie Korbakes and Stefanie Romanowski each had 11 kills.
- Abigail McGowan recorded 45 assists and 10 digs.
- Luci Krenzke recorded 25 digs, while Korbakes and Mallory Parsons each had 11 digs.
Romanowski had a block solo and four block assists.
