Volleyball stays perfect with two wins at UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic

OSHKOSH, Wis. – It was a strong start for the Concordia University Wisconsin Volleyball team at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic Friday night. The Falcons edged St. Norbert in a thrilling five-set match to begin the evening before sweeping St. Scholastica 3-0.

THE BASICS

CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 3, ST. NORBERT 2 (18-25, 25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 16-14)
- The Falcons dropped the opening set against the Green Knights before posting a pair of 25-17 victories. St. Norbert would force a fifth and deciding set, but the Falcons held on with a 16-14 victory in the tiebreaking set.

- Junior Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) paced the Falcons in the win with a career-best 19 kills. She hit an impressive .514, while adding nine block assists in the win.

- Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) tallied 29 digs for the Falcons, while senior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) and sophomore Ashley Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) each dished out 21 assists. Klotz also served up six aces in the match as the Falcons totaled 13 as a team with Nevinski chipping in three.

- As a team the Falcons hit .174, but picked things up in their three sets won. CUW was at its best in set two, posting a .359 attack percentage with just two errors and 16 kills on 39 attempts. Junior Megan Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) tallied nine kills, while junior Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) added eight.

- The Falcons threw a block party in the win over St. Norbert, totaling 16.5 as a team. In addition to Nevinskis 9 block assists, sophomore Amanda Schultz (North Prairie, Wis.) totaled seven block assists. Megan Jehlicka and Moegenburg added five block assists for CUW.

CONCORDIA WISCONSIN 3, ST. SCHOLASTICA 0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18)
- The Falcons dominated the Saints, handing them in three sets in the nightcap. CUW recorded a .202 attack percentage in the game, including a .323 mark in the opening set.

- Moegenburg and junior Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) paced the Falcons with seven kills. All-in-all 10 players tallied a kill in the 3-0 win, eight of those tallying at least two.

- Klotz recorded 15 assists, while Ashley Jehlicka added 11. Moegenburg also led the Falcons with 17 digs in the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- CUW has started 5-0 for the second time in the past three seasons. The Falcons also were 5-0 in 2014 when they posted a program-best 24 wins.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will conclude the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Challenge tomorrow with a pair of matches. CUW will battle No. 22 Millikin University at 10 a.m. before battling host UW-Oshkosh, who is receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 poll, at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available during the match against UW-Oshkosh.
