Volleyball pushes No. 17 UW-Stevens Point to five sets

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin fought back after losing the first two sets on Tuesday night to force a fifth set, but No. 17 UW-Stevens Point pulled away for a 3-2 (25-18, 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 15-7) non-conference victory inside Berg Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin's offense started slow and was off rhythm during the first and second set, recording 25 kills to 21 errors, which led to a 2-0 deficit in the match. They did regroup and claim the third and fourth stanzas to push the match the distance.
- The 17th-ranked Pointers took over in the fifth set, overcoming a 6-5 deficit by putting together a 9-2 scoring run to win the contest. UW-Stevens Point twice recorded four-straight points down the stretch.
- There were 30 scoring ties and 12 lead changes in the back-and-forth matchup.
- Freshman Megan Mayer (Downers Grove, Ill.) led the Falcons with a career-high-tying 14 kills, but had 10 errors. Junior Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) tallied 13 kills, while junior Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had nine kills. Freshman Kendall Stribling (Greenfield, Wis.) recorded eight kills and junior Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) smashed seven kills.
- Senior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) had 24 assists and sophomore Mackenzie Wockenfus (Appleton, Wis.) posted 15 assists.
- Moegenburg dug a team-best 23 attack attempts and sophomore Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) finished with 19 digs. Mayer also had a career-best 14 digs.
- At the net defensively it was Moegenburg who recorded six block assists, while Nevinski and Stribling each had five block assists, respectively.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Pointers were the second nationally ranked WIAC opponent faced by the Falcons this season. They previously fell 3-2 at home against No. 12 UW-Whitewater on October 5.
- Klotz moves into a tie for third place on the program's all-time list for assists with 2,027.
- Stribling's kill and blocking statistics were career highs.
- Freshman Ariana Richmond (South Elgin, Ill.) dug a career-high-tying 11 attack attempts.

THE OPPOSITION
- Kelly Cefalu had a match-best 22 kills, while Gabby Thomas smashed 13 kills of her own.
- Abby Majercik had 46 of the Pointers 54 assists, while a pair of her teammates serviced two aces.
- Bri Piepenbrok dug 31 attack attempts and four other Pointers had double-digit digs.
- Kelly Magliano recorded a pair of solo blocks and four block assists. Ellen Drewry tallied two solo blocks and three block assists.

- Concordia Wisconsin hosts Chicago on Saturday at 3 pm in a non-conference match and the regular season finale.
