Dominant Second Half Propels Women’s Soccer

MEQUON, Wis. – On Saturday, CUW women's soccer team notched the 4-0 victory over the Eagles of Edgewood College, to improve 4-6-2 overall 3-4-1 in conference play.

After 45 minutes of action, the Falcons and Eagles reached halftime tied at nil.

But in the 59th minute, the Falcons opened the scoring as senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) played the ball into the middle of the field, finding the open junior Isabella Rapp (Grafton, Wis.). With the ball at her feet, Rapp took a touch before sending the ball straight to the bottom left corner, giving the Falcons the 1-0 lead.

One minute and 46 seconds later, after winning the ball, junior Sheridan Dorge (Winnipeg, Man.) took a pair of touches toward the center of the field and ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box and found its way to the upper-right corner of the goal to give Concordia the 2-0 lead.

The Falcons were able to tack on another goal in the 64th minute as Isabella Rapp laid off the ball behind Edgewood's backline to senior Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.). With the ball bouncing and the goalie quickly approaching, Esten put a foot on the ball to sneak it past the keeper, extending CUW's lead to 3-0.

The fourth and final goal of the half came courtesy of Selena Esten, who secured the ball out of the air from a corner kick delivery from sophomore Shay Lange (Racine, Wis.) and put it away to earn Concordia the comfortable 4-0 lead.

In the victory, junior goalkeeper Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) completed her fourth shutout of the season and totaled five saves.

On the offensive end, Selena Esten scored the brace and took a game-high eight shots with six shots on goal. Meanwhile, three different Falcons recorded assists.

CUW will redirect its focus to Marian University, as they will travel to Smith Field on Wednesday with the match set for 7 p.m.
