Falcons Wipe Warriors

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's soccer team picked up the 3-0 shutout win over the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College. With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-3-2, while the loss sends Wisconsin Lutheran to 4-2-1 overall.

After a scoreless first half, in the 53rd minute, the Falcons scratched the game's first goal. Senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) used her breakaway speed to get past the back line of Wisconsin Lutheran. From 10 yards out, Moore unloaded a shot, which the Warriors' goalkeeper knocked down. With the ball loose near the goal, senior Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) charged in unmarked and sent the ball into the back of the net to give Concordia the 1-0 lead early in the second half.

One minute later, junior goalkeeper Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) dove to block a shot just outside the 18-yard box from an open Warrior attacker, helping CUW maintain their 1-0 lead.

In the 77th minute, Selena Esten scored her second goal of the day from a pass from fellow senior Anna Gong (Phoenix, Ariz.). With the ball on the left side of the 18-yard box, Anna Gong centered it to Esten, whose left-footed shot snuck past the diving Wisconsin Lutheran goalkeeper to give CUW the 2-0 lead.

The third and final goal for the Falcons came courtesy of sophomore Shay Lange (Racine, Wis.), as Selena Esten found her open on the left side of the field. With space, Lange launched a shot that soared over the Wisconsin Lutheran's goalie's head and found its way into the back of the net to give CUW the convincing 3-0 lead.

CUW's defense continued its excellent performance as they completed the shutout, earning the 3-0 win.

Selena Esten led the way for CUW, registering two goals and one assist in the win, while Brooke Braga ended her day with four saves.

As a team, the Falcons outshot the Warriors 22-8, as nine different Falcons recorded a shot.

The Falcons will now look ahead to their Saturday match against the Regents of Rockford, with kick-off slated for 1 p.m.
