Eagles Spoil Falcons' Home Opener

MEQUON, Wis. - The CUW women's soccer picked up its first loss of the 2023 season against the 13th-ranked Eagles of UW-La Crosse. The 0-3 loss sends CUW to 1-1-1 on the year, while UW-La Crosse improves to 3-0-0.

UW-La Crosse struck first Wednesday, netting a shot in the 30th minute from 10 yards out.

With 13:32 left in the first half, lightning was detected within a 10-minute radius, postponing the game for an hour and 22 minutes.

Following the delay, play resumed as neither team tacked on another goal in the first half.

The second half saw UW-La Crosse extend their lead in the 66th minute on a shot from just outside the six-yard box.

The final goal for the Eagles came with eight minutes left, capping their lead to 3-0.

The Eagles outshot the Falcons 20 to three. Senior Selena Esten (Cedarburg, WIs.) led the Blue in White with two shots, while sophomore Sarah Klopp (Glendale, WIs.) had the other shot for CUW.

Junior Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) totaled six saves.

The Falcons look ahead to another tough non-conference match as they will host No. 15 Loras on Saturday, Sept. 9, with kickoff slated for 4:30 p.m.
