Women's Lacrosse defeats Dubuque on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – After trading goals in the first three-and-a-half minutes, Concordia University Wisconsin blew the game wide open with 10-consecutive goals en route to a dominating 22-4 victory over the University of Dubuque on Sunday afternoon at Fitting Field.

Prior to the game the Falcons honored seniors Breanne Geipel (Hartland, Wis.) and Aly Pinkos (South Milwaukee, Wis.), along with junior Gabrielle VanBeaver (Green Bay, Wis.) for their commitment, dedication and hard work over the past three seasons.

All three contributed to the convincing Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference win. Geipel scored a career-high-tying two goals and caused two turnovers, while Pinkos had two goals, two assists and caused a career-best two turnovers. VanBeaver tickled the twine late in the second half with her first career free-position marker.

Both teams exchanged goals in the first three-plus minutes prior to the Falcons rattling off 10 unanswered goals to take an 11-1 halftime lead. During the scoring barrage, junior Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) scored four goals and assisted on two more. At one point, she had a hand in five-straight goals with three tallies and two assists.

The Spartans scored a goal 2:26 into the second half before the Falcons put together a string of nine-consecutive goals to take a forceful 20-2 lead with just under nine minutes to play. In all, a record-tying 12 players found the back of the net for CUW.

The Falcons ended with a program record 22 goals, to go along with 33 points, which was one point shy of the record they set on Saturday against Loras College.

Reiter finished with eight points (six goals, two assists), which was one point shy of tying the program's single game record. She also had a career-high-tying nine ground balls and seven draw control wins. Junior Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) recorded her fifth career game with double-digit ground balls after picking up 10, to go along with six draw control wins and three caused turnovers.

Junior Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) tallied three goals, two assists, five ground balls and a career-high-tying three caused turnovers. In addition, freshman Allie Novick (Schaumburg, Ill.) marked her first career goal with eight minutes and 48 seconds to play in the game.

CUW had a 40-11 shot advantage (28-7 on goal) and scored 2-of-3 free-position attempts. They held UD (4-10, 2-7 MWLC) to just 5-of-16 conversions on clears.

Bridget Schirmers led the Spartans with three of the team's four goals.

The Falcons (12-4, 8-2 MWLC) are currently in a three-way tie with Carthage College and North Central College. Both teams play on Tuesday night and those decisions will determine the No. 2-4 seeds in the MWLC Tournament. Augustana College has clinched the top seed and will host the entire tournament, which will be played on Friday and Saturday.
