Winning streak continues for Women's Lacrosse

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin pushed its winning streak to a program record four-consecutive games with a 20-4 decision over Fontbonne University on Sunday afternoon during Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play at Fitting Field.

The Falcons tied the program record for points in a game (20 goals, 10 assists), which was set a day prior in a home victory over St. Mary's College. They scored four free-position markers and scored 14-consecutive goals to put the game out of reach for Fontbonne.

It was the fourth game this season CUW has scored at least 12-unanswered goals and third time it finished with at least 20 goals. The Falcons (4-0, 2-0 MWLC) held a 27-9 shots on goal advantage, cleared 10-of-11 opportunities, won 19-of-26 draw controls and had a 35-20 lead in ground balls.

Twelve Falcons finished with at least a point, with junior Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) leading all players with seven points (four goals, career-high three assists). She had career bests with nine ground balls and 10 draw controls wins – both of which rank second all-time in a single game for CUW.

Junior Haley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) ended with three goals and an assist, while junior Stephanie Barry (Gurnee, Ill.) had two goals and a career-high two assists. Senior Aly Pinkos (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and junior Hannah Redden (Libertyville, Ill.) each found the back of the net twice.

Sophomore Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.) also had a career day offensively and finished with three points, including two assists.

Defensively, sophomore Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis.) caused a career-high three turnovers and sophomore Jenna Brown (Roseville, Minn.) picked up a career-best four ground balls. The Falcons defense held the Griffins to just four shots in the opening half, three on goal, and 1-of-5 free position attempts for the game.

Freshman Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) earned her second her win after playing all 60 minutes and making five saves.

Four different FU (0-4, 0-2 MWLC) players tallied a goal, while Sarah Blasko led the team with three ground balls and four draw control wins.

CUW returns to action on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Spring Fling Tournament in West Palm Beach, Fla. They will compete against SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday before playing Palm Beach Atlantic University on Wednesday.
