Women's Lacrosse wins record eighth victory

CHICAGO – Concordia University Wisconsin had 11 players find the back of the net on Sunday afternoon, as it down Illinois Institute of Technology, 18-7, in non-conference action at Stuart Field.

The victory was the eighth of the year, which sets the program's single season record.

The Falcons' offense played well, building a seven-goal advantage midway through the first half, and increased it to as many as 12 goals late in the game. The 11 players scoring are the most in a single game, as five found the back of the two or more times.

CUW (8-3) finished with a 38-15 advantage in shots (27-11 on goal), 31-18 lead in ground balls, won 17-of-24 draw controls and forced 22 turnovers. They also scored six unanswered goals twice in the victory.

Freshman Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) played in the field for the first time in her career and scored a career-high four goals. Senior Breanne Geipel (Hartland, Wis.), junior Gabrielle VanBeaver (Green Bay, Wis.) and junior Hannah Aton (Columbus, Ind.) all had career games with three points each. Aton also picked up a career-best five ground balls. Sophomore Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis.) scored twice and sophomore Jenna Brown (Roseville, Minn.) tied her career high with three points, which included two assists.

Junior Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) led all players with a career-best three assists, to go along with six draw controls wins. Senior Aly Pinkos (South Milwaukee, Wis.) picked up a career-best five ground balls. In net, Junior Rebecca David (Oregon, Wis.) played 21 minutes before entering the field and scoring her first career goal. Junior Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) played in goal for the first time of her career and made four saves.

The Falcons finished with 29 points (18 goals, 11 assists), which was one point shy of tying the program's single game record accomplished twice earlier this season.

IIT (0-11), a first-year program, was led by Catherine Cusack's hat trick, while Mariah Kuitse and Florencia Carrerou each scored twice. Carrerou won five draw controls and Thompson picked up five ground balls and made nine saves in goal.

CUW returns to action on Tuesday for a difficult Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game at North Central College (5-3, 4-0 MWLC) at 7 p.m.
