Records fall in Women's Lacrosse victory over Loras

MEQUON, Wis. – Hannah Redden set the program record for points and assists in a game, as Concordia University Wisconsin cruised by Loras College on Saturday at Fitting Field during a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game.

The victory clinched a spot in the MWLC Tournament for the Falcons with a game to play. Currently, they are in a three-way tie with Carthage College and North Central College.

Redden (junior, Libertyville, Ill.) had a hand in five of the Falcons first six goals, as she scored twice and had three assists. She later helped in four of the final five goals scored in the game with a marker and three more assists to set the program record for points (9) and assists (6) in a game.

As a team, CUW jumped out to a commanding 10-0 advantage after 19 minutes and three second of play in the first half. They surrendered two of the next three goals before scoring nine-consecutive before the final horn.

The Falcons set single game program records for points (34), assists (14), shots (54) and ground balls (62). They held the short-handed Duhawks (played a player down the entire game) to just six total shots, including four shots on goal which came in the first half.

CUW finished with a powerful 54-6 lead in shots, 62-26 difference in ground balls, won 17-of-24 draw controls and forced 33 turnovers of which 15 were caused. The Falcons 15 caused turnovers tied a season high.

In all, 11 players recorded at least a point and everyone scored at least a goal for the Falcons.

Junior Stephanie Barry (Gurnee, Ill.) had a career-high three assists, six ground balls and four draw control wins. Junior Hannah Aton (Columbus, Ind.) ended with a career-best three points, including two goals and her first career free-position tally. Sophomore Jenna Brown (Roseville, Minn.) added a career-high-tying two goals.

Defensively, the Falcons limited the Duhawks offense on every possession and held them to 4-of-25 on clear attempts. Junior Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) led the defensive efforts with 12 ground balls, which is the third most for a single game in program history.

Junior Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.) had a career-high-tying nine ground balls and sophomore Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis.) finished with a career-best eight ground balls.

Loras (3-15, 2-7 MWLC) was led by Kaitlyn Kutsch who had both goals, while Meredith Gawlik made 20 saves in goal.

CUW (11-4, 7-2 MWLC) concludes the regular season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. MWLC matchup against the University of Dubuque at Fitting Field. They will honor seniors Breanne Geipel and Aly Pinkos, along with junior Gabrielle VanBeaver for their dedication and hard work over the past seasons.
