Edgewood Sneaks Past Women's Lacrosse

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team suffered its second conference loss at the hands of the Edgewood Eagles on Wednesday night by a 12-8 score. The outing saw the Falcons come back from multiple three-goal deficits, however, the Eagles managed to pull away late to walk away with a victory.

Edgewood snagged three goals to open the contest, as Natalie Skaife, Emma Raupp, and Kerry Costello found the back of the net to put Edgewood ahead 3-0 just under six minutes into the game.

However, the Falcons slowly crawled their way back into contention, scoring four consecutive goals to claim the lead. Senior Anna Gong (Phoenix, Ariz.) scored midway through the opening quarter while sophomore Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) cut the deficit in half in the frame's final minute.

After Cardinale notched her second of the day in the early moments of the second quarter, junior Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) put the Falcons ahead just over three minutes later. Edgewood ultimately had the last say in the first half, evening the game with a late goal to square the two squads at four tallies each entering the break.

The Eagles rattled off another series of quick goals to begin the third quarter, but Cardinale put a stop to the run, scoring with 18 seconds remaining in the period.

A tally early in the final quarter left Cardinale with her fourth four-goal performance of the season, depositing her team-leading 39th score. After picking up a pair of assists on earlier Concordia goals, senior Savannah Schweiger (Eagle, Wis.) collected the equalizer just 42 seconds later, knotting the contest at seven with 12:30 remaining to play.

Continuing the trend of scoring stretches was Edgewood, who potted five consecutive goals as the remainder of the fourth quarter progressed. McCardle found her second goal of the game in the game's closing efforts, but the tally was unable to spark a comeback, as the Falcons fell by a 12-8 score.

Freshman netminder Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) recorded six saves for Concordia in the outing.

The Falcons will look to get back into the win column in their next contest against the 2-4 MSOE Raiders on April 13.
