Women's Lacrosse earns non-conference victory over St. Mary's

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin earned a 20-3 non-conference victory over St. Mary's College on Saturday afternoon at Fitting Field.

The Falcons scored the game's first 16 goals and set a program record for points in a game (20 goals, 10 assists). They also outshot the Belles 26-12 on goal, held a 41-27 advantage in ground balls and cleared 15-of-17 attempts.

Junior Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) set the program's single game record with four assists, including three-straight to end the first half. It took the Falcons just over 15 minutes into the game to initiate the running-clock rule against the first-year Belles.

In all, 11 players recorded at least a point in the victory. CUW (3-0) was led by junior Sammi Reiter (Stillwater, Minn.), junior Stephanie Barry (Gurnee, Ill.) and Heckendorf who each finished with a hat trick. Junior Hannah Redden (Libertyville, Ill.) added two goals and assist.

Numerous players had a career day for the Falcons, as junior Hannah Aton (Columbus, Ind.) and senior Breanne Geipel (Hartland, Wis.) had two goals apiece. Sophomore Jenna Brown (Roseville, Minn.) finished with a career-best three points (one goal, two assists).

Junior Gabrielle VanBeaver (Green Bay, Wis.) who normally plays defense, netted her first career goal in the second half and assisted on the final marker of the game.

Defensively, junior Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) and Heckendorf each had seven ground balls, four draw control wins and three caused turnovers. Sophomore Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis.) picked up six ground balls and won three draw controls.

SMC (0-6) was led by Jackie Loesch who scored twice and Aubrey Golembieski tallied a goal.

CUW returns to action on Sunday for its first Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference game of the season against Fontbonne University at Fitting Field at 12 p.m.
