Women's Lacrosse blows by Augsburg in home victory

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin took control of Wednesday evening's non-conference game against Augsburg College by scoring 12-consecutive goals to end the game, which gave them a 16-2 victory at Fitting Field.

Aly Pinkos opened the game with back-to-back goals before the Auggies found the back of the net. Sammi Reiter answered with back-to-back scores of her own prior to AC recording another goal. After that sequence of events, the Falcons offense was unstoppable, scoring 12-consecutive goals to activate the running clock rule and give them their second-straight win to start the season.

CUW (2-0) set a program record with 44 ground balls, while outshooting AC 41-13 and clearing 13-of-19 attempts. The Falcons also forced 34 turnovers, 11 of which were caused.

Junior Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) tied the program record for assists in a game with three, including the first two scores of the game. She also finished with two goals for a career-high five points. Pinkos (South Milwaukee, Wis.) also had a career day offensively as well with four points and three markers.

Reiter (junior, Stillwater, Minn.) ended with four goals, one assist, seven ground balls, six draw control wins and two caused turnovers. Junior Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) also added three goals, one assist, six ground balls, five draw control wins and three caused turnovers.

Defensively, senior Breanne Geipel (Hartland, Wis.) had a career-high five ground balls, while junior Gabrielle VanBeaver (Green Bay, Wis.) picked up a career-best four ground balls. Sophomore Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.) also had a career-high three ground balls.

Freshman Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) earned her first career victory in goal and recorded six saves.

Dezera Sieracki scored the Auggies (3-4) only two goals, while Brianna Schulz and Ashley Eliason combined for 17 saves in goal.

The Falcons led 10-2 at halftime before sophomore Sabrina Boehlke (Random Lake, Wis.) netted two scores in the first 53 seconds of the second half to initiate the running clock rule. Her first score came 17 seconds into the second half, which was five seconds short of tying the program record for fastest goal to start a half.

CUW returns to the field on Saturday at 3 p.m. against St. Mary's College (Indiana) at Fitting Field. The game is the second part of a doubleheader with the men's lacrosse program.
