Women's Hockey Had a Record-Breaking Season

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team posted a record-breaking campaign in the 2022-23 season. The Falcons won a program record 14 games at 14-11-2. They also finished at 9-7-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

CUW started the season with a 4-3 victory at No. 5 Wisconsin – Eau Claire.

The Falcons closed the fall semester with a pair of shutout victories to post the best fall semester record in program history at 8-3-1.

In January, the Falcons won game two of the Lake Forest series, 3-0, to force a shootout for the Border Battle Cup. The freshman duo of Makayla Spejcher and Jillian Tabaka scored in the shootout to give the Falcons the cup for the first time in program history.

Against Finlandia, head coach Steve Fabiilli won his 100th game with the Falcons.

Makayla Spejcher was voted as the NCHA Freshman of the Year and to the All-NCHA and All-Freshman teams.

Senior Emily Reimche was also voted to the All-NCHA Team.

The Falcons soared in the classroom this year will 11 named to the All-NCHA Academic Team. Emily Reimche was also voted onto the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.

A handful of records also fell this year. Senior Annalina Van Hercke had 704 saves, including 61 saves against Saint Benedict. Van Hercke and Kami McCardle both had four shutouts on the season as well.

Sophomore Brooke Gibson scored five goals in December against Finlandia.

Amanda Bauer notched five assists against Marian in November.

The Falcons are looking to soar once again in the 2023-24 season.
