Spartans Take the Weekend from Women's Hockey

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey team fell short on Saturday night against the Spartans of Aurora. Aurora took the weekend series with a 4-1 result on Saturday to send CUW to 10-7-1 and 5-5-0 in the NCHA.

The visitors from Illinois started the evening with a pair of goals in the first period.

The Black and Blue then struck again four minutes into the second period on the power play.

CUW found the back of the Aurora net 14 seconds later when Olivia Kurtz was left in front of the cage and slammed the puck in the back of the net off assists from senior Bela Noyle (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Megan Vettraino (Howell, Mich.).

Aurora added an empty-net goal for good measure in the final minute of the game.

Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) had 38 saves on the night.

CUW finished with 29 shots, with freshman Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) leading the way with five.

The Falcons will have some time off until they travel to the great state of Michigan in February to take on Adrian.
