Falcons Bounce Bethel in Overtime

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Falcons opened 2023 in winning fashion with a 4-3 overtime at Bethel. The victory extends the winning streak to three games and propels CUW to 9-3-1.

The first period saw six goals scored between the two teams.

The Royals struck first on Friday at the 4:27 mark.

A minute later freshman Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) tied the game.

The Falcons earned the lead three minutes later off the stick of senior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.).

Sophomore Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) extended the lead on the power play with an assist to sophomore Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.).

The Blue and Gold scored two goals in the final five minutes of the period.

The two teams skated to a scoreless second and third periods.

Brooke Gibson turned into the overtime hero when Emily Reimche poked the puck away and Gibson went five hole for the win.

Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) picked up 29 saves in the victory.

Both teams finished with 32 shots on the evening. Brooke Gibson and sophomore Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) both had seven shots in the victory.

Freshman Jillian Tabaka (Maplewood, Minn.) thrived in her home state with 20 faceoff victories.

The Falcons look to keep rolling on Saturday against Nichols.
