FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey team opened the 2022-23 season with a 1-1 tie in a non-conference matchup at Marian on Sunday afternoon.
The Sabres struck first in the first period to take the lead.
The Falcons tied the game in the third period off the stick of sophomore Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany).
Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) recorded 24 saves to preserve the tie.
CUW held a 26-25 advantage in shots on Sunday.
The Falcons and Sabres competed in a shootout after the game and the Falcons won the shootout, 1-0, with sophomore Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) finding the back of the net.
The Blue and White are back in action on Tuesday at Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
