Women's Hockey Sweeps Finlandia

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons brought out the brooms on Saturday evening. The Blue and White improved to 8-3-1 on the year with a 3-0 victory over Finlandia.

The 8-3-1 record is the best fall semester record in program history.

Both teams skated to a 0-0 end to the first period on Saturday.

Sophomore Megan Vettraino (Howell, Mich.) found the back of the net as she tipped in a shot at the 6:34 mark of the second period with assists to junior Amanda Carney (Aurora, Ont.) and sophomore Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.).

Nine minutes later, Megan Vettraino tipped in a shot from senior Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.).

Amanda Bauer ended the scoring in the final minute of the second period with a shot from the right side that surprised the Finlandia defense. Senior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) and sophomore Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.) had the assists on the goal.

The Lions had their opportunities on Saturday with 10 CUW penalties. The Falcons were able to fight off multiple five-on-three advantages for Finlandia and sophomore Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) collected six saves in the third period to finish with 11 saves in her second consecutive shutout victory.

CUW held a 70-11 advantage in shots on Saturday. Brooke Gibson led the charge with 11 shots and 13 faceoff victories.

CUW returns to action in January at Bethel.
