Sixth-Ranked Bulldogs Bite CUW

ADRIAN, Mich. – The sixth-ranked Bulldogs showed why they are one of the best teams in NCAA Division III on Sunday afternoon. Adrian defended home ice with a 5-1 victory to send the Falcons to 10-9-1 on the year and to 5-7-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Black and Gold scored twice in the first period to take a lead into the first intermission.

Skating four-on-four, sophomore Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) could not be stopped despite the Bulldogs' best efforts and Mackrell snuck the puck past the netminder on a breakaway.

The Bulldogs closed the game on a 3-0 run, including two power-play goals.

Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) notched 50 saves on the day.

Natalie Mackrell had five of the 16 CUW shots against the 'dogs. She also led the flock with three blocks.

The Falcons return to action on Friday at Lawrence. CUW is currently in fifth place in the NCHA standings at 15 points, two points behind Lake Forest for the final hosting position in the NCHA Slaats Cup Quarterfinals.
