Second frame barrage too much to overcome for Women’s Hockey

MEQUON, Wis. - On a night celebrating breast cancer awareness and research, Concordia University Wisconsin wore vibrant pink jerseys for the first time in program history in the causes' honor. However, it was No. 10 Adrian College who pulled away with a 9-1 National Collegiate Hockey Association victory on Friday evening at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

The Falcons were able to outshoot the Bulldogs on goal 28-26 for the contest, but went 0-for-7on power-play opportunities, compared to Adrian who finished 2-for-3 in the category.

The lone bright spot for CUW (4-14-3, 4-10-2 NCHA) was freshman forward Jenna Brown (Roseville, Minn.) who notched her first career goal for the Falcons on an assist from forward Alexis Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.) midway through the first frame.

Adrian (16-5-1, 11-5-1 NCHA) responded with a vengeance in the second stanza as they launched four goals in to the back of the net, leaving the Falcons with no answer to their offensive bombardment.

The third period was not much kinder to the Falcons, as the Bulldogs scored five more unanswered goals to end the game. Leading the way for AC was forward Sarah Connelly who racked up two goals and an assist. Also providing a spark for the Bulldogs was the NCHA leader in total points Kelsey Kusch, scoring two goals and adding an assist of her own. Kusch leads the NCHA with 26 overall points.

The Falcons face the Bulldogs again Saturday afternoon at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Puck is set to drop at 2 p.m.
