Cole scores power-play goal to give Women's Hockey sweep over Marian

MEQUON, Wis. – The game's lone power-play success was the most important, as Sara Cole scored near the end of the first period and Concordia University Wisconsin shutout Marian University for a 1-0 victory during Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play.

Following a Sabre penalty for too many men on the ice Saturday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center, the Falcons took advantage quickly and used crisp passing to net a power-play goal less than a minute later by senior Sara Cole (Plymouth, Minn.). Freshmen Michelle Musil (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.) were credited with an assist on the game's lone goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) continued her superb play since earning the starting spot five games prior, with 16 saves in a winning effort. The shutout was the second of the season and of her career.

The game was not nearly as lopsided as Friday in the shots on goal statistic, with CUW holding a 28-16 advantage, but neither team could capitalize on their skater advantages. There were a combined nine power-play chances, but only score resulting for those opportunities. The Falcons finished with a 91-31 shots on goal difference in the serie.

CUW returns to action with a home-and-home matchup against St. Norbert College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they travel to De Pere, Wis., for the NCHA contest.
