Brown records two assists, Women's Hockey earns first win

HANCOCK, Mich. – Jenna Brown assisted on the first two goals and Concordia University Wisconsin shutout Finlandia University, 3-0, in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play on Friday evening. The Falcons outshot the Lions 49-5 in their first win of the season.

CUW (1-7-2, 1-5-2 NCHA) was in need a change from their dry spell and did so by unleashing double-figure shots on goal in each period, including 20 in the final frame. The Falcons, however, couldn't find a way to convert on seven power-play opportunities.

Senior Carly Piras (Eden Praire, Minn.) put a Brown pass in the back of the net at midway in the opening period for the game-winning tally. Freshman Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.) also connected on a Brown (Roseville, Minn.) pass in the second period to give the Falcons a 2-0 advantage.

FU (0-7-0, 0-7-0 NCHA) skated just 12 positional players and goalkeeper Breanna Hynes made 46 saves in the loss. The five shots on the goal given up by CUW were a program record.

Freshman Hannah Zobel (Reedsburg, Wis.) added the final marker halfway through the second frame via freshman Nina Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) assist.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Evans (Fairbanks, Alaska) picked up the win between the pipes.

CUW and FU finish the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Houghton County Arena.
